Mail Server Upgrades

We have been looking for a better solution for mail: to improve server reliability and in particular to better minimize SPAM. Currently over 90% of the email coming into our servers is immediately discarded because it is so blatantly SPAM. We understand that the 10% that gets to you is still overwhelming. We are now ready to implement the next generation of SPAM control and over the next few months we will be fine tuning it to minimize SPAM. We will also be able to show you how to implement some new personal tools we are providing to enable you to tighten the control even further.

During the weekend of June 5-7, all mail accounts that were previously on the Com-link server will be migrated to new mail servers. If you still have mail or address books on the old server or your Domain has not been moved yet, you may still get to that server by putting 64.6.64.207 in the address bar of your browser. We will try to keep the old server available for a week after your domain has been moved.

Clients on the ABC Solutions mail servers will be migrated in the following weeks as well. The transition should be transparent with one exception. Former Com-Link clients who access their email from a web browser currently go to mail.cedar-rapids.net. This will change to webmail.yourdomain.xxx (your domain.xxx is the last part of your current email address). ABC Solutions accounts already use this form of address.

As an example: if your email address is joe@mycompany.com then to access your mail from the web you would put webmail.mycompany.com in your browser. When the login screen opens enter your full email address as your User Name and the password you currently use for your email in the password field.

You will then have three choices for programs to read your email. We would suggest using SquirrelMail. It has an easy to follow interface, but you may wish to try the other programs as well. Horde has many advanced features such as calendar sharing that may be useful to small workgroups. Once you choose the program click "autoload" and that program will automatically be used each time you login.

You will notice that this screen gives you control over your email to:

***Change your password

***Set up to forward your email to another email address

***Set up an auto responder to let people know when you are away

***Configure mail client to automatically put the settings in your mail program

***Use Box Trapper to only allow emails from known sources

***Setup filters to automatically process mail and preform actions for you

The new servers will be using a Cpanel interface with tools we have pre-selected. We believe this is one of the best systems available and have been working for months to provide this for you. There are many more advanced features we will be addressing over the next months once we get the basic move behind us. These will include some advanced mail controls to help reduce SPAM.
